This establishment, which opened in July 2016, is located in a charming small Japanese-style house in the center of Kyoto. It positions itself exclusively as a specialty coffee shop, and therefore, no drinks other than coffee are available here. There’s also hardly any space: guests only have two seats on a bench at the entrance; otherwise, it's strictly takeout.
Nevertheless, there are plenty of people eager to visit, and it’s not just because of the well-deserved reputation Weekenders have as pioneers of the specialty coffee movement in Kyoto. It's also due to the elegant and stylish wabi-sabi design of the place. This design seems to transport visitors to a fantastical Japan, where the Heian era and a distant future blend together. Of course, in a sense, this is a common trend in Kyoto, but specialty coffee shops, which usually embrace avant-garde minimalism, have mostly stayed away from such influences.
This alone is a great reason to try local cappuccino made from single-origin light roast beans, wouldn’t you agree?
