This 12-seat Italian restaurant has been compactly set up in a small one-story annex in front of an apartment building, resulting in something like a 'garage restaurant'—a democratic neo-bistro with a minimalist yet stylish interior.
The Synesso espresso machine at the entrance makes it clear that coffee is taken very seriously here. This espresso machine, along with the grinder, was brought over from the neighboring Cafe Phalam for a reason: the chef’s wife once trained there as a barista, and the opening of the restaurant coincided with Phalam's decision to switch to more compact equipment.
The restaurant’s chef worked for about five years at an Italian restaurant called Il Pappalardo in Kyoto. The fact that he has never been to Italy turns out to be an advantage for the restaurant: thanks to the strict Japanese approach to working with ingredients, his food is very 'soft' and natural, with no garlic or spicy seasonings, focusing instead on boiled and grilled dishes with seasonal local vegetables—root vegetables in winter, tomatoes and eggplants in summer.
Since the last order can be placed at 9:00 PM, you can enjoy the latest specialty coffee in the vicinity of Nijo Station right here.
