This is the second establishment of Japan’s latte art champion, Yamaguchi-san, which opened on the Sannenzaka slope leading to the ancient Kiyomizudera Temple in March 2023. In the coffee world, Yamaguchi-san is a well-known figure: he was the one who 'got Arabica off the ground,' working at the first café of what has now become an international brand for the first five years since its opening. After that, he ventured out on his own and opened his first coffee shop, which we also highly recommend visiting.
The format of this establishment is a coffee stand, located on the first floor of a building that also houses several other stalls selling light snacks and ice cream. Even if you don’t have an extra 15 minutes and are in a hurry to join the crowd slowly but steadily pulling you towards the famed temple, take at least a moment to stop by and see the 'star' barista.
