Embankment Coffee
Opened in October 2017, Embankment Coffee is a specialty café located in Osaka’s Kitahama district. Part of the Elmer’s Green group, the café takes its name from its setting—right by the Tosabori River, across from the old Osaka Stock Exchange, in an area where Osaka’s retro charm meets sleek modern office buildings. The name “Embankment” reflects this unique blend of architectural and cultural context.
The café occupies part of a two-unit house built in 1912, with a western-style façade and black plastered upper floor—a classic example of early 20th-century Japanese architecture.
Embankment Coffee focuses on light-roasted, single-origin beans known for their bright acidity and fruit-forward profiles. Every drink is brewed to order, with baristas adjusting grind size and extraction to match each selection.
The space is minimalist and serene, accented with antique furniture, and features large windows overlooking the river and Nakanoshima Park. Coffee is best enjoyed black—without milk or sugar—to fully appreciate the natural flavor of the beans. That said, an espresso machine is available, and if you ask, they’ll gladly prepare a latte using their single-origin espresso.
