Coffee Base bna Alter Museum
Coffee Base BNA Alter Museum is a café inside an art hotel in the Kawaramachi district that opens the space up not just to guests, but to the city.
Without it, BNA Alter Museum would remain a fairly closed environment for people staying there. Coffee Base turns it into an entry point — somewhere you can come for coffee and encounter the art at the same time.
The choice of Coffee Base for this project says something too: the brand has long been associated in Kyoto with attention to detail and a strong visual identity.
Design shows up here in everything — the layout of the space, how drinks are presented, the branding, and how the café interacts with the museum itself.
The approach to flavor stays just as systematic: like other Coffee Base locations, this one lets you choose beans by flavor tree — not just for filter, but for espresso-based drinks too. You can pick based on your preferences for acidity and body, or use it to try something new. Usually that option is reserved for filter drinkers; espresso drinkers rarely get to choose by flavor profile.
The croissants at Coffee Base come from fiveran, a bakery that ranks among Japan's top 100 bread shops on Tabelog. Fiveran also has its own Coffee Base outpost at its flagship location on Muromachi-dori.
